Hackney Conversion — Victorian red-brick building with restored facade

Hackney Conversion

Project Overview

A Victorian building transformed into self-contained flats

A carefully planned conversion of a three-storey red-brick building into multiple residential units — preserving original period features including arched stained glass and Victorian geometric floor tiles, while delivering modern, self-contained living spaces throughout.

Hackney Conversion — restored period detail

A full conversion of a three-storey Victorian red-brick building into multiple self-contained residential units. The project required careful planning to maximise the number of liveable flats while preserving the building's period character — most notably the original arched stained-glass window above the entrance and a beautifully patterned Victorian geometric tile floor in the main hallway, both retained and restored as focal features.

Each unit was fitted out as a compact, self-contained flat with its own kitchenette — including a hob, small fridge, and washing machine — alongside a private en-suite shower room with grey-tiled enclosures, white vanity units, and chrome heated towel rails. Bedrooms have grey laminate flooring, double-glazed windows, and simple, durable finishes suitable for rental use. Some units include balcony or patio access via full-height glazed doors.

Communal areas were finished with new dark carpeted staircases featuring brass nosings and restored dark-painted timber balusters, maintaining the Victorian character of the building's circulation spaces. Externally, sections of new zinc cladding were introduced alongside the original brickwork, and the building was brought up to current fire safety and HMO compliance standards throughout.
